Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account on Hearth & Page ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use this App. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement. See our Privacy Policy for information on how we handle children's privacy.

3. Your Account

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent moderation or manipulate leaderboards is prohibited.

4. User-Generated Content

• You retain ownership of content you create, including quizzes, discussion messages, reviews, and notes.
• You grant Hearth & Page a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and store your content as part of the service.
• You may delete your content at any time. Account deletion removes all personal content; discussion messages are anonymized (author information removed) but content is retained to preserve conversation context.

5. Acceptable Use

You may not:

• Post content that is illegal, harassing, threatening, or hateful.
• Post spoilers without using the spoiler tag feature.
• Impersonate another person.
• Attempt to manipulate points, leaderboards, or quiz scores.
• Coordinate false flagging of other users' content.
• Use automated tools to create accounts or content.
• Attempt to access other users' data or bypass security controls.

6. Content Moderation

• Users can flag quizzes that violate these Terms using the in-app flagging system.
• Content that receives multiple flags may be automatically hidden.
• Quiz creators are notified when their content is flagged, with the reason provided, so they can create improved versions.
• We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate these Terms.

7. Points and Achievements

• Points, ranks, achievements, and leaderboard positions have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for real-world goods or services.
• We may adjust point values, achievement criteria, or leaderboard calculations at any time to maintain fairness and balance.

8. Disclaimers

• The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
• Book data is sourced from Google Books API and may contain inaccuracies in titles, authors, or metadata.
• We are not responsible for the accuracy of user-generated quizzes. Quiz quality is community-managed through the flagging and voting systems.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Hearth & Page and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the App. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App (which is $0 for the free tier).

10. Termination

• We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms.
• You may delete your account at any time via Settings > Delete Account.
• Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Data deletion follows the process described in our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users via in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
